Why Kastela Is Becoming a Smart Departure Point for Croatia Sailing Holidays

Kaštela is becoming a smarter choice for Croatia sailing holidays because it offers something many travelers now value as much as the islands themselves: a smoother start.

Instead of building the trip around a busier urban departure point, more crews are looking at bases that combine fast airport access, strong marina infrastructure, and direct reach into Central Dalmatia’s best-known sailing waters. Kaštela fits that profile unusually well. On 12 Knots, the destination currently shows 385 boats available for charter, which already places it among Croatia’s substantial embarkation bases.

One of Kaštela’s biggest advantages is logistical simplicity. Marina Kaštela is located in Kaštel Gomilica, between Split, Solin, and Trogir, and the marina says it is just 7 km from Split Airport. For a one-week charter, that matters immediately. A short transfer makes same-day boarding easier, reduces stress on arrival day, and helps the holiday feel like it starts sooner.

The marina itself strengthens that appeal. Marina Kaštela describes itself as one of the region’s more advanced and expansive marinas, with 420 sea berths and 200 dry berths, plus services such as yacht support, parking, a supermarket, laundry, restaurants, and charter agency facilities. For travelers, that means Kaštela is not just convenient on the map. It is a base that is built to handle real charter traffic smoothly.

That practical setup is a big reason Kaštela has become easier to position in the charter market. Travelers increasingly want departures that feel efficient without feeling purely functional. Kaštela offers that balance. The marina is large enough to support different charter styles, while the town itself has more character than many first-time visitors expect.

Official local tourism guidance describes Kaštela as a 17-kilometre coastal town made up of seven connected settlements, while the Split-Dalmatia tourist board calls it one city of seven historical centres. More
