The Mljet National Park is enjoying a strong start to the 2026 tourist season, with visitor numbers currently matching last year’s levels and early signs that a new daily boat connection from Dubrovnik is already helping boost interest in the island destination.
Park director Ivan Sršen said visitor numbers during the pre-season period have slightly increased compared to early 2025.
“Up until May 1 we recorded visitor numbers around two to three percent higher than last year,” Sršen said.
One of the main reasons for the positive trend is believed to be the newly introduced daily boat service connecting Dubrovnik’s Gruž Port with Mljet National Park.
The line departs from Gruž each morning at 10:30 a.m., giving tourists staying in Dubrovnik easier access to one of Croatia’s most famous natural attractions.
Although the boats are not yet operating at full capacity, park officials say that is normal for the pre-season and expect demand to continue growing as tourists and travel agencies become more familiar with the route.
Focus on Spring and Early Summer Tourism
The park is also continuing efforts to spread visitor numbers more evenly throughout the year and avoid overcrowding during the peak summer months.
Officials are particularly promoting April, May and June as ideal periods to visit, when temperatures are pleasant and walking trails are less crowded. More
